Review Time: Jordana Best Lash Extreme Volumizing Mascara
Ok... My name is Samantha and I am a mascara junkie.
I've tried tons. I'm not kidding.
Because here's the deal, I have terrible eyelashes. They're short, wimpy, sparse, and they have the weirdest coloring where they're dark towards the base and blonde at the tips. Like, who even? I can't.
So when I find a mascara I like, it's sort of a big deal. I'll make a list of some other mascara's I've liked in a separate post.
Here's what's up with this mascara in particular:
It's a mousse/dryer formula
- which is great for people like me who's lashes don't hold a curl and they're sparse. I find with the wetter mascara's, as soon as you curl your lashes and put it on- IT'S SO HEAVY. Like, urgh, why?! It weighs my lashes down and then all the curling work I did is gone instantly. And sometimes with those wet formulas, it grabs all my lashes and shoves them together. NO ONE LIKES LOOKING LIKE THEY HAVE, LIKE, 8 TOTAL LASHES. NO. NO. NO.
The brush is pretty great. Short bristles, fine spacings.
I normally don't like plastic bristles because they have a tendency to be wide spaced and all your lashes fall in one area and stick together. This brush is pretty nice though! It's skinny, and the bristles are shorter so you can really get in the lash line without ending up with craziness everywhere. Nothing is worse than laying down a sweet eye look only to splatter mascara all over it.
The stopper in the top actually works like it's supposed to.
Oh, my, God. Nothing irritates me more than when a mascara is fab, the brush is fab and then the stopper in the lid that defines how much product is scraped off doesn't work. I don't like to manually scrape my brush before applying, that's what the stopper is for. Like, do your job tube.
I was so happy when I heard the little suction pop when I opened the mascara, and was more pleased when I found no giant clumps in the bristles. Oh man, I like that. I like that a lot.
The Price.
I can't believe the price of mascara sometimes. For an item you should be throwing away roughly every 3 months, they sure like to JACK UP THE PRICE. High ends retail usually between $15-$30 and drugstore is no better with theirs averaging between $8-12. That's nuts to me. And considering how hard it is to find a good mascara, you're usually doubling that cost because the one you bought sucks, or you can't build it up, or it lengthens but doesn't volumize. Sheesh. I've been known to have 3 mascaras on rotation and you know they costed $10 a piece probably.
Which is why I saw the $2.99 price tag and nearly had a heart attack.
And that's a retail price, not on sale.
So lets get into the application.
Although this mascara says "volumizing" I think it's more lengthening than anything.
That being said, when I added the second coat it really beefed it up.
Normally, it feels like a volumizing mascara kinda just adds a bunch of crap to your lashes and feels like you're wearing a heavy veil of nonsense. But what I like about this mascara is that it actually adds definition to each lash, and instead of the typical use of "volume" as in thickness, it's more like "volume" as in how many lashes you have. It's so perfect.
I could for sure see this as a great everyday mascara, and maybe with 2 or 3 coats- a great bridal mascara.
Below is a picture with no gimmicks. No falsies, no other mascara, 2 coats, and I tight-lined my upper lids with eyeliner. I hate when people talk about how great a mascara is and then they add a huge cat-eye liner and extra lashes and it's like, seriously? That doesn't help.
So as you can see, this is pretty fab. Now Jordana has a few other mascaras around the same price point but I haven't tried them yet. But for 3 bucks a pop, you could probably buy all of them and never think twice.
