Golden Globes: Praises and Rants
There's nothing I love more than awards seasons. When I was younger I used to watch them all the way through, and then scour the magazines and internet later to recreate the looks. I dreamed of wearing Dior and being covered in jewels.
There's literally nothing more glamorous than awards seasons. NOTHING.
But I feel like the older I get, the younger the starlets become, and the less "old Hollywood" they show- I'm kind of upset this year.
Why, you ask?
Because everyone friggin' lost it in the details!
I'm sorry, if you hire a stylist who you pay large sums to literally put you together- you'd think they'd actually do the job. And honestly, I realize the Golden Globes are where you take chances and the Academy Awards is where you class it up- but Oh. My. God. It's an awards ceremony. Bring your friggin' A-game!
So here's the first thing I noticed, and it shouldn't be a surprise that it angers me due to the fact this is my profession:
Everyone's hair kind of sucked.
First I kept seeing flat ironed to death and pushed to the side, which is already lazy enough- and then it was the friggin' beachy waves. BEACHY WAVES! WHAT?! HOW LAZY CAN YOU BE?! I get it, Olivia Wilde, you are pregnant- but that's what stylists are for. You could have literally set the whole damn thing in some rollers and brushed it out. I WOULD HAVE BEEN SO HAPPY- ESPECIALLY WITH THE DRESS! OihfilurtglikfislkhfilkAHjd, this makes me so mad. This is not the Teen Choice Awards. This is not the Grammys. This is the Golden Globes. Have some respect.
And don't even get me started on this monstrosity. Who. The hell. Thought this was ok? What stylist was like, "Ummmm, lets not wash your hair and we'll just gel it ALLLLLL back." I want to meet that guy and smack him on the mouth. And that windblown nonsense on the left? Don't even. Don't even- because that girl looked gorgeous and her dress was to die for, and then that hair happened. Someone screwed her. I believe it.
And this Amber Heard nonsense. CLEARLY, she hung around Johnny Depp too long and started to turn into Helena Bonam Carter with this too high for you bouffant... She looked like a damn pea head. Terrible considering how glam that dress was.
The makeup was like.... Eh.
Like I get it, dark lashes and nude lips with great skin is like- an awards staple. I get it, but how booooring. Especially when you see the girls who DID do something else it's like, "URghhhhh LOVE."
I just felt like everyone went so safe with the makeup and considering how lazy everyone kind of was with their hair- they could have at least done SOMETHING with the makeup. SOMETHING.
The dresses were like, really great in general, but then when someone missed- it was a tooooootal miss.
Like, what? Who even?
So enough ranting- allow me to sing my praises.
Lena Dunham.
I can't even begin to say how much I loved the entire look. And I know a million people would probably disagree- but I really like this.
First off, her makeup was flawless. The lip was just enough to not fight with the dress and her skin was to die for.
Secondly, I don't care what anyone says- I love me a color pop on the red carpet. And frankly, yellow was a good move. She was a stand-alone star. LOOOOVE- and she didn't overpower it with jewelry, or anything crazy. And can we just talk about the fact that her tattoo is showing? I really like that. In a weird way it actually makes the whole ensemble better. MAYBE I AM CRAZY, BUT I LIKE IT.
Margot Robbie
Like, ok. The makeup was boring- but her hair was perfection and she looked flawless.
BUT THAT DRESS THOUGH. Sweet Jesus. What a knockout. So glamorous and the subtle green was so interesting. She was adorable to watch on stage and in interviews because she was just so happy to be there. This girl totally gets what an awards show is supposed to be and I sing my praises.
Jennifer, effin', Lawrence.
We all know I love her to death. She's funny, she's appreciative of what she has, and she just tells you whats up. I enjoy her.
So we all know this makeup is great. I mean, the lip is different enough to set her apart but it's nothing crazy- nor is it the orange red everyone seemed to go for. And her hair looks polished and NOT LIKE SHE ROLLED OUT OF BED. (Btw that lip color is by Dior and it's called Prune Daisy and one day I will have it!)
And no surprise the Dior girl wore Dior, but c'mon- this is some good Dior couture. She looks amazing and I sort of love that her jewelry doesn't match. Like she went completely black and white and then did a green earring. It's very current, but still classy.
And something else I liked:
So recently a lot of stars have come forward to say how much they hate wearing the heels.
Emma Watson took off her shoes at a different awards show saying it was "a feminist statement really", Lena Dunham took hers off so she could actually say her acceptance speech, and really- a lot of girls have been coming out with this fact lately.
You can read a full article about it here:

So when Emma Thompson took hers off at the Golden Globes, I was super happy. Here's the thing- as long as stars are encouraged to wear heels, it will forever be something we as the public think is appropriate. And once it becomes more public that, really, we hate them- eventually designers will start making some really kick ass flats that will eventually trickle down to the masses.
As a sasquatch of a woman, I am ok with flats becoming "a thing". I would love to see some formal flats that actually look as good as they feel. I am ok with this.
And one more thing I really really liked:
Can we just talk about Tina Fey and Amy Pohler hosting this whole thing?
They should do it every year in the history of forever.
I LOVED it. They were fun and lighthearted, the jokes were well written and went over very well, they looked amazing- and frankly it was kind of nice to see 2 very successful women representing funny and great women everywhere. It's no secret I'm a very big fan of both of them- but lets face it, they killed it.
And lets be honest, hearing Tina Fey say the words, "I'm da captain now" in the full on accent was probably one of the best parts of the night.
I don't think they could have found a better host/team of hosts.
So that's my Golden Globe rant and rave- I hope you liked the awards show as much as I did.
