Talkin' About FUNraising: The 5k FunRun and 1 Mile Doggie Walk (The Aftermath)

Talkin' About FUNraising: The 5k FunRun and 1 Mile Doggie Walk (The Aftermath)

So on May 4th, Bear, Roger, and I all loaded up in the car for the Paul Mitchell Doggie Walk. Since it was technically Star Wars Day (May the Fourth be with you), we all decided to wear Star Wars shirts.

Even Bear.

My handsome boys. Neither of them are morning people, so I was really proud they were up and at it.

What I didn't tell Roger was that I had actually pre-registered online at www.active.com (because Roger is notoriously late for everything), so we ended up getting there right on time and even had a little time to enjoy breakfast. Roger's favorite thing in the whole world is pretending orange slices are his teeth and then trying to give me a smooch.

Neither Roger or I are particularly athletic (despite the fact that he's shaped like Iron Man) and Bear is prone to overheat- so we opted to just enjoy the mile walk at leisure and take our time. The weather was insanely nice and everyone had either extremely nice dogs or were really open to petting all the dogs- so the entire day ended up being really fun and stress free.
Anyone with a bigger dog, especially a bully breed knows how hard it can be to get out for events like this- even if your dog is well socialized like Bear because of breed ignorance- but the Paul Mitchell staff were very nice.

So once we finished our walk, they had a station set up to take pictures with your dog or running groups.

We kind of suck at taking family pictures, but this one is pretty great.

Then they lined up the dogs so the judges could award "best dressed" and "cutest dog"- things like that, but right about that point Bear was getting tired and was too far from "mama". (He's a mama's boy, hardcore.)

So then we found a nice spot and enjoyed the auctions and product raffles until lunch.

My dog is both a ham and a snuggle-butt.

All in all, the day was really nice and leisurely (except for the runners I think- they were there to RUN), and especially for a first time event with dogs- it went very smoothly.

Hopefully we'll get to do it again next year,

-SamanthaK, Roger, and Bear
